Make a visit to the new exhibition "The Extensive Heathland"

Vlinder

In the Eco-centre you can visit the new exhibition "The Extensive Heathland" until 15 June 2010.

In earlier times the heathland stretched as far as the eye could see across Kempen. The number of hectares has dropped sharply, but its charm and its unique character remain with us still. But there is a lot more to it than just purple patches. A heathland is a unique biotope, with its own vegetation, even including carnivorous plants.

The heathland was also an economic factor for centuries. The heath farmers used the turfs in their animal wintering sheds, which in turn they knew how to exploit to help make the meagre ground more fruitful. At one time thousands of sheep grazed in this region. And sheep mean wool. So Mol was for decades the epicentre of the wool trade.

All these different aspects are on display in this lively and interactive exhibition.
