With or without a guide?

It is not compulsory to be accompanied by a guide during a visit to Arboretum Kalmhout, since you can always guide a group yourself through the garden and the collection. 

Choosing one of our experienced guides naturally has many advantages.

A guide will: 

• Be able to tell you about the different seasons and about plant features that are not yet in evidence or have already disappeared. 
• Know the arboretum and be able to show you all the relevant plants while still taking you back to the exit on time.
• Know the collection and plants very well.
• Be able to give you a look at what goes on behind the scenes in a botanic garden. Be able to tell you about maintenance and activities in the garden. 
• Make your visit more lively.        

A guided walk lasts about 1.5 hours.

As part of an educational programme

The Arboretum Kalmthout team of guides includes a number of biology and other science teachers. It is therefore quite possible to seamlessly integrate a tour with lesson subjects or an educational programme. Give a clear indication of the subjects and topics you would like see. 

Special school weeks

Twice a year, in the spring and summer, we offer attractive terms for schools. Entry to the garden and the guides cost less. 

15 March to 31 March inclusive.

Tour guide for EUR 25 instead of EUR 30 

A few agreements

• During the visit, the students remain under the responsibility of the adults accompanying them.
• Limit the group size to 15 to 20 students, so that they can all be given the necessary attention. If this is not possible, we allow up to 25 students per guide.
• In bad weather, the grass paths may become waterlogged, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear and rainproof clothing if necessary.
• Many plants have spines or thorns. Others may be toxic or cause allergic reactions and the students should be informed of this.
• In the cafeteria, it is possible to eat packed lunches you have brought with you, but you must also consume something purchased on the premises. Lunch may be booked in advance.       

Cancellation

• If a planned visit cannot take place or if fewer guides are necessary than requested, you should give the secretary's office at least two working days notice of this. If this notice period is not met, EUR 15 will be payable (a bill will be sent).
• If the group is delayed, you should inform the secretary's office as soon as possible. In principle, the guide will wait for 15 minutes after the agreed time. If the group does not turn up, we will also charge EUR 15.
